SOS - Save Our Shelter!
Dear Friends and Supporters of NAWS: As some of you may know, the NAWS Humane Society is heavily reliant on and funded by the NAWS Animal Clinic. The income from our clinic is the primary source of funds that allow us to keep our shelter doors open. We just received word that our clinic veterinarian of over 10 years will be leaving us for another opportunity on July 15, giving us merely weeks to come up with a financial crisis plan. We are actively searching for a new doctor to keep our medical clinic open, but there is a significant shortage of available veterinarians in the country right now, and even less who are experienced in shelter medicine. The recruitment process can take months, which will not only affect us enormously financially, but will affect our shelter animals significantly as well. Having an on-site doctor is one of the primary reasons we have been able to take on such hard cases of pets with medical needs, in addition to the nearly 3,000 pets we save each year. Without this resource we will not be able to help as many animals, and the mission of NAWS will be at stake. We are extremely thankful that the NAWS Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic will continue to operate as normal, which is an extremely important service to our community, as well as low-income communities. The Spay/Neuter Clinic breaks even and supports itself, but there is no income remaining from those services to help fund the shelter. We are asking for you all to join our rescue army and participate in the battle to keep our doors open. We believe we can get through this if we come together as a community of advocates for the pets in need!!
